"Reciprocity - 1"
In the recent videoart “Reciprocity-1” Natalia Bereg continues the discussion on the modern woman, but under a slightly different, more pragmatic angle – that of the modern relationship of sexes. Is it hugely different from that old one, with a lesser number of modern and undoubtedly prejudiced “rights”, but also a bigger number of responsibilities.
«Staple» was initially conceived as an experiment. The most unimportant moments of our lives are filled with millions of meaningless words and are meaningless not because they are bad as they are, but because each perceives them in his own way. Imagine the number of errors and tongue-tiedness that a simple effort to convey the sound holds in itself – a molecule hitting a molecule, the breeze tilting it, the sound being transmitted with a mistake and so on...

The “Monroe Syndrome” video art was first shown on the big screen at the auditorium of the “Higher Courses of Screenwriters and Directors” in 2017. The explicit imagery, not hiding the female protagonist’s indecent state, and the neurotic creative photo- and video- image design provoked the public to an ambiguous reaction. Some were closing eyes, some sighing and breathing in heavily, someone was even cursing...
Images related to the future movie started coming to the author back in the beginning of the 2000s, when Natalia Bereg was in the process of yet another VGIK entrance exams. It was considered back then that to win the future elderly Master's sympathy, one needed to learn a poem about war by heart and put their soul into reading it aloud. Having re-read many authors who wrote on the topic of war, Natalia identified for herself the main idea – that the main heroics of that time, and life on the whole, are in the heroes who nobody knows!
